The long shot of my protagonist here is the first time the character is introduced to the audience, they witness a female running with passion across a prison yard, this creates tension and they ask 'where is she going?'. There first assumptions of her is that she is active and clearly has will power.
the viewers are presented with an extreme close up/ zoom of the map that the detective is also observing, this is done for them to understand what is on the page in detail and look at the road names and markings that he is observing, also for them to see everything in the detectives perspective and become informed at the lack of connections on the map in finding the prison escaper. However, at this point it has not yet been confirmed that the prisoner has escaped, but slight hints such as 'SUSPECT' written on the map with red, bold writing clarifies the characters in the trailer. This is the first step for the audience into understanding the story line.
I purposely chose to film without a tripod for this particular part of my trailer, this is filmed with a shaky camera and forms a dizziness and confusion for the viewers, similar to the detectives mental stability at that moment, i wanted to show this through my camera and portrayed it a zoom. Also, it is done for creative purposes, to help me go beyond the limits of camera use and break conventions of ensuring a still camera.
The low angle shot here shows his struggle to getting any closer to capturing the suspect. His position within the investigation is inferior and he has no connections or clues in helping him in the case, this is shown through this shot and the viewers understand his determination to get to the top and overcome the issues he is currently facing. I broke typical conventions of this shot as usually low angle shots show status, but here they do the opposite.
The high angle shot however, follows its conventions and highlights in inferior mind set and position. My audience wonder if he will make progress and want to watch on to see if this happens.
The overlap effect here clarifies his focal concern, this being the female. I have shown this through including a prison image of her here backed up with with his concerned facial expression. This makes it clear for viewers to know exactly what the story line is-detective capturing female- and who the main influences within my trailer and film. The opening introduces the character and now there roles and motives have been allocated.
I included a long shot followed straight away by a extreme close up, this gives detail into the prisoners facial expression and at this point she looks worried. The audience may sympathise with her and be indulged by her emotional eyes, seeming as if they are crying or deeply upset.
I needed to give detail and include cuts within my trailer as this is what trailers mostly do, i chose to show these constructive, repetitive shots through cuts of my protagonist, i zoomed into certain props she has on her, for example her black and white coat, a red torch she is holding and her black casual shoes.
All of those cuts lead up to this moment, my mid shot, where the protagonists transformation is shown in my trailer. The viewers want to watch the film and see how this transformation has undergone. Also, this is the point where you are able to see her hat and sunglasses, these are used and warn to cover her identity and help her not get caught. The viewers have already formed a biased opinion on her this being against her as she is evil and against the law, but at the same time admire her courage and bravery. Male audiences might find her attractive as she flips her hair from side in a seductive, attractive way.
The extreme close up of there hand shows the passion in there relationship. This is shown after the voice over 'my wife, my children, what more can she take?' is stated and therefore gets the viewers to sympathise with the loss he has suffered and understand how vital it is for him to find the prisoner.
Ive cut from one technology to another to yet again highlight the passion of my detective, this is illustrated through zooms help make it intense and clear. The readers are entertained at the measures the detective is taking just to reach his motive and gain justice.
The extreme zoom here of the protagonists lips, the audience are focusing on what they she is saying, 'so we meet again'. An link is made here of the dialogue and shot and all these factors help to make a interesting construction.
The extreme close up of the females eyes at the ending of the sequence builds suspense, forms a cliff hanger and is intimidating. The audience are still hooked and want to watch the full movie of DARK DAYS!
