PROPS

My target audience are sixteen and over, to appeal to these audiences i had to make sense of what would attract them to watch my detective film. Within my trailer i used various tools given to the detective (as shown below) to help find the female that has escaped from prison.

I chose to use a graph and a handy book for detectives to help trace the prisoner. The inspiration for using these specific tools came from several classical detective series. Poirot has an interest in reading which helps his capability of solving the crimes that he always some how 'ends up in' (this meaning his is a opportunity type of detective that ends up in the scenario's). I wanted to portray that within my trailer, hinting to the audience that my detective also uses such strategies. These traditional methods of solving crime are still used within the twenty first century.
The sheet of paper with the map and markings target and clarify's for the detective all the possible routes that the female could have taken. The red marking at the centre of my map represents where she escaped from, the lines drawn from the outer centre shows the different routes that the prisoner could have taken. I chose to show this to viewers as it clearly demonstrates the difficulty of the investigation and educates the audience of the plan that they are actively going to take-this being following the blue lines. This method was spontaneous for me as i have not seen this in majority of detective stories, however, i recently watched a movie called 'Sinister' which was about a man who wrote books on unsolved crimes, his method of understanding what happened was to draw similar maps like mine and post them on his wall, to help him guide his literature.

My trailer included gadgets like a mobile phone, specifically a BlackBerry Torch, similar to the one in the image above. I also decided to hand the detective a laptop, to further help him with his investigation. The purpose of the phone is to call for backup when he has a lead, the audience are able to see the phone being used in this way when he breaches contact with his 'Chief'. The laptop provides him help that none of the technologies above do, for example its capacity helps him find information and research on other prison escapes, answering the question of 'how did she escape in the first place?' after all, it is a high security prison. My focal reason for using these two mediums is because it makes my trailer more contemporary/modern, this  then interests a younger generation and specifically  males to come watch my movie- young men usually take particular interest in gadgets and technology.
